Getting to know Volkswagen GTI

A few weeks ago I got an invitation from Volkswagen Australia to check out their comprehensive range of new vehicles, but one in particular has struck me the most. The new Volkswagen GTI sets itself apart from the pack with a truly upscale cabin and a high level of features that make it almost seem like a luxury car.

You may think that Volkswagen’s GTI is nothing new and you will be somewhat correct: by adding a more powerful engine and brakes, Volkswagen’s GTI has been dominating the entry-level hatchback market for over 25 years now. The latest version includes heated sport front seats, snazzy tartan upholstery, Bluetooth and an eight-speaker audio system with a touchscreen head unit and iPod interface as a standard equipment.

Talking on your phone can be a dangerous distraction, that’s where GTI’s hands-free technology makes driving safer via the Bluetooth connectivity: it helps you make, answer and end calls from behind the wheel. After initial pairing with my Xperia X10, my phone automatically connected as soon as I started the engine. Multiple mobile devices? No worries, you can sync up to 4 phones – that’s one per passenger.

Anytime you can buy a car that features ‘Autobahn Package’, you know you’re heading in the right direction!

Last but not least, the optional rear camera hidden behind the VW badge on the rear hatch is a perfect parking assistant as it displays on the panel how much room you have behind you… unless, of course, you prefer the car to park itself using the self-parking technology.
