Proton Savvy Fuel Economy Record Drive

A Proton Savvy returned from a 1,614km journey across Peninsular Malaysia on 1 2/3 tanks of petrol to set a national fuel economy record for a standard showroom model vehicle above 1000cc.
The attempt, for a place in the Malaysia Book of Records, involved a standard 1.2-litre Proton Savvy driven to all the 11 states in Peninsular Malaysia on a three-day journey that began at the Proton Centre of Excellence in Subang Jaya.
Fitted with a 40-litre capacity fuel tank, the Savvy throughout this trip incurred 68.079 litres, returning an average fuel consumption of 4.218 litre per 100km or 8sen per km. The entire journey cost the car RM130.71.
The Savvy Malaysia Fuel Economy Record drive began with a 600km drive through five states (Selangor, Perak, Penang, Kedah and Perlis) from Shah Alam to Arau before back-tracking to Sungai Petani for the night.
Day 2 tested the Savvy over a 624km journey conquering the winding and mountainous East Coast Highway exiting at Jeli in Kelantan and Jerteh in Terengganu before calling it a day in Kuantan (Pahang).
The third and final day meanwhile, involved a 400km drive from Kuantan to Segamat in Johor, before cutting across into the North-South Highway for the final sprint through Ayer Keroh in Malacca and Seremban (Negeri Sembilan) towards Bukit Jalil and ending at Proton’s Centre of Excellence in Shah Alam.
“Fuel economy is an area that has always been very important and significant especially with consumers today focusing their attention and concern on the fuel prices. This is the reason why we believe it was timely for us to accept the challenge to set a fuel economy record,” said Abdul Wahab Mohamed Khalid, Head of Engineering, Proton Holdings Bhd.
“How better to generate greater awareness with regards to conserving fuel than to have a national car establish a national record.”
“Obviously, one very important goal for us was to prove that the Savvy offers great fuel economy for a vehicle of its class and likewise,” said Abdul Wahab.
